Transition into Prep

At Wattle Glen PS we understand that transitioning into school is a large adjustment and because of this we provide prospective future students with numerous opportunities to experience the Wattle Glen Way. We hold transition sessions multiple times a term, starting in the first term.

In first term, we commence our ‘Come and Play’ afterschool sessions. They are designed to familiarise future students with our setting. It is an informal environment with their future peers and teachers. During these sessions, we build rapport with the new students and parents.

During second term, we hold our next round of ‘Come and Play’ sessions. These sessions are with our specialist teachers, where the students have fun in a slightly more structured setting. Future students begin practising the routines of completing an activity and build their gross and fine motor skills.

Third term sees the orientation sessions shift into more formal learning sessions, “Bright Starts”. These sessions are within school hours and the children begin to learn the routines and expectations of school while completing fun and educational activities with the Prep teacher, grade six buddies and support staff.

Finally, in term four our formal transition sessions begin for the enrolled Prep students. These sessions focus on the development required at the beginning of the school year, relationship building and improving your child’s confidence to start school as happy and excited prep student.

To enrol in these events call 9438 1259 or email wattle.glen.ps@education.vic.gov.au or to notify us of your child's attendance.

Is your child transitioning during their educational journey?

We understand that changing schools is exciting, but it can also be confronting or overwhelming if you are the new student, Wattle Glen Primary School is committed to making this adjustment as easy as possible.

When you come to tour, our Principal, Melanie McLennan, will guide you around the school. During your tour, you are informed about our approaches, shown around the school grounds and buildings, and you will meet the staff and students that make Wattle Glen PS the warm and welcoming school that it is. Some parents decide to bring their child on their tour, and we support this by talking to them, explaining everything in child-friendly language and answering any of your child’s questions with the same respect and importance as their parents questions.

We are flexible in providing trial/orientation days so that the new student can attend full-time at their own pace. During these sessions, students meet their teacher and peers, learn the Wattle Glen Way, and they see, hear and feel what their education will be like at Wattle Glen Primary School.

Call 9438 1259 or email wattle.glen.ps@education.vic.gov.au to book a tour and discuss your child's transition with our friendly office staff.
